In the House of Commons to-day Sir Michael Hicksßeach seated, in reply to a question, that Sir Henry Drummond Wolff was accredited to his Majesty the Sultan in the first instance, but that he would afterwards proceed to Egypt and endeavour to secure peace in that country. The death is announced, in his 101st year, of Sir Moses Montefiore, baronet, the well-known Jewish ' philanthropist. The shipment of frozen mutton ex Sorata, from Melbourne, has been placed upon the market. The meat, which is in excellent condition, realised an average price of 4d to 4^d. (Received July 31, 1.10 p.m.) July 30. The Egyptian loan was placed on the market to-day. The rate of interest is fixed at 3 per cent., and the minimum has been fixed at 95£. In the House of Commons to-day, the Hon. F. Stanley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stated that an Imperial or Colonial protectorate would be established over Bechuanaland, but that her Majesty’s Government was at present undecided which to adopt.
