SIR PETER LUMSDEN'S MISSION.

In the House of Commons on Thursday, April 23rd, in reply to Mr Labouchere, Mr J. D. Cross said the pay and allowance to Sir P. Lumsden during his mission amounted to £3112 10s a year, besides £I2OO a year as member of the Indian Council. The total cost of the mission entered in the estimate for 1884-85 was £120,000. In the Budget of 1885-6 provision was made for £60,000; As to the statement in the Weekly Despatch of an inordinate amount of wine and spirits having been Bent to the mission, the only information he bad was that there was sent from India for the nse of the mission 15 dozen of champagne and six dozen brandy.
