[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. THE BEAOONSFIELD BANK ROBBERY. WAID TURNED QUEEN’S EVIDENCE. THE SHIP NORTH AMERICA MISSING. REDUCTION OF TARIFF FOR CABLE MESSAGES. (Received July 16, 2 p.m.) Hobart, July 16. Two men named Rice and O’Keefe, who were recently arrested by the Tasmanian police for complicity in the Beaconfield Bank robbery, were brought op before the Hobart Magistrates yesterday for examination. After hearing the evidence of the convict Waid, who is now undergoing sentence for the same robberv, and who has turned Queen’s evidence against Rice and O’Keefe, the Bench committed the prisoners for trial. Melbourne, July 16. • The ship North America, which left Melbourne for London on February 19, is missing, and grave fears are entertained for her safety. The colonies of New Zealand, New South Wales and Victoria have agreed to the reduction of the tariff for cable messages passing over their line by onehalf; but they consider that in that case they are entitled to a substantial concession at the hands of the Cable Company. Communications are being exchanged on the subject, and a favourable issue to the negotiation, is looked for.
