The German Lloyd's Company at Bremen have accepted a contract from the German Government to run a line of their steamers to Sydney, the voyage to be made in thirty-six days. [special to press association.] London, June 30. Mr J. E. Gorst, Q.C., has been appointed Solicitor-General in the Salisbury Ministry. A. modified scale of rates to be charged on vessels calling and sheltering at Albany, Western Australia, has been sanctioned. Mr Gladstone has intimated that he will not retire from political life at present, and further that he would support the Marquis of Salisbury as far as possible. Hobart Pasha, who was removed from the English navy list in consequence of his having accepted the appointment of Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea fleet of Turkey during the Russo-Turkish war (the English Government having at that time issued a proclamation of neutrality), has had his name re-instated on the Navy list. July 1. A grand naval tournament has been held at Bantry Bay by the fifteen ironclads under the command of Admirals Seymour and Hornby, which were despatched to the Coast of Ireland for the purpose of carrying out an elaborate system of naval manoeuvres. The tournament was a splendtd spectacle. Edward Hanlan, the sculler, has been nearly drowned at Toronto while out rowing. July 2. A syndicate is projected irt London to purchase an interest in the New Hebrides Trading Company. The news of the rebellion of Isa Khan against the Governor of Khunduaz, in Afghanistan, has not been confirmed. An Australian gentleman offers to back Beach to row any man in the world ; also match an Australian crew against any British crew for .£IO,OOO. It is rumored that the Salisbury Ministry have arranged terms with Russia. Captain A. T. Dale, of 11.M.5. Diamond, has been appointed commander of H.M.S. Devastation.
