KUMARA MINING MATTERS. [united press association.] Wellington, June 30. In the House to-day, in replying to Mr Seddou, whether or not the Minister of Mines will, as advised in the goldfields' report of his predecessor, establish the electric light in connection with the working of the Kumara waterrace : Mr Larnach said the expense was too great, and Government did not feel justified in undertaking the expenditure. Replying to Mr Seddon, (1) If he will cause by public notice tenders to be called for supplying timber for the Kumara water-race and works connected" therewith : (2) If it is true that Government have been paying Nicholson, Fairbairn, and Co. nine shillings all round per 100 feet for all timber supplied within the last twelve months to the Government for the Kumara water-race and works connected therewith : (3) If it be true that the head of the firm of Nicholson, Fairbairn, and Co., W. NicholsoD, Esq., has been doing the principal clerical work and kept an account in connection with the Kumara water-races and works connected therewith for the last three years: The Minister of Mines said it had been decided to advertise for tenders for the supply of timber. Replying to No. 2, he said Government paid 2s per 100 feet, but was out of timber. Replying to No. 3, he said Nicholson had been employed temporarily in connection with the Kumara water-race, but was not connected with it. The Colonial Treasurer said instruction had been given to establish a postoffice at Dobson's Brunnerton.
