The Kumara Times Published Every Evening. WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1885.

We regret to have to report another fatal accident in connection with the hard and laborious occupation of ground-sluic-ing. Henry Morris, in company with George Mansfield, Peter Arthur, and Gilbert Roberts, proceeded to work as usual at 8 o'clock this morning, in their claim at Larrikins. Mor-ris set about undermining a huge stone, weighing, probably, some four or five tons. He had his back towards another largo stone or stone wall, and whilst ho was in the act of turning round, the stone he had been undermining canted against him jamming him in the chest between the two, and killing him instantly. As soon as possible levers were procured and Morris released, but life was found to be extinct ; all he had been heard to say was "Oh!" Deceased was a native of Durham, and about 35 years of age. The body was brought down to Thompson's Metropolitan Hotel, where an inquest will be held to-morrow afternoon, at three o'clock. The amount received by the Town Clerk on Monday for borough licensing foes was £OOS, made up as follows : Seven 12 o'clock licenses, at £SO ; three 11 o'clock licenses, at £45 ; and eleven 10 o'clock licenses, at £4O. The amount received last year was £lOlO. The difference (£45) is occasioned by the closing of the Tramway Hotel, by Mr Killeen, who lias taken the Republic Hotel, and by one hotel license being made for II o'clock, which formerly was for 12. The Borough Council offers a subsidy of £SO per annum to the ■person appointed to undertake the duties of night-watchman and lighting the street lamps. Applications for the subsidy will be received at the Town Clerk's Office up to Thursday, the 9th July, at 8 p.m. The time for receiving tenders for clearing, grabbing, &.<\, on the Borough Reserve, is unavoidably extended for a i fortnight, viz., to Thursday, lGth July.

The Christchurch coach arrived at the usual hour this afternoon. All accounts against the Westland County Council for services or supplies up to 30th June, must reach the office, Hokitika, by Monday next, the 6th inst., at 5 p.m. Commander Edwin wired at noon today :—" Glass further rise, and hard frost to-night." The season is so mild in England that on Christmas Day a church in Berkshire country was largely decorated with roses, mignionette, yellow jasmine, primroses, violets and anemones, all picked in open field. Special Notice to the Public —Vance Klaus JHassalaer will be selling in Kumara this week. His father also, Mr Von Don Fidegron Hassalaer, has just arrived from England, with a large stock of Boots and Shoes, which he is going to offer to the public at prices which defy competition, on Thursday, and following days. Those who are running about barefooted should wait until Mr Von Don Fidegron Hassalaer arrives, which will be on Thursday next. —[Advt.] You Can Be Happy if you will stop all your doctoring yourself and families with expensive doctors or cure-alls that do only harm, and use Nature's simple remedies for all your ailments, you will be well and happy and save great expense. The greatest remedy for this, the great, wise, and good will tell you, is Aericanm Co.'s Hop Bitters. Benefactors. eminent physicians and chemists announced the discovery that by combining some well-known valuable remedies a most wonderful medicine was produced, which would cure such, a wide range of diseases that most all other remedies could be dispensed with, many were sceptical, but proof of its merits by actual trial has dispelled all doubt, and to-day the discoverers of that great medicine, Dr. Soule's American Co.'s Hop Bitters, are honoured and blessed by all as benefactors."
