RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Friday, June 12, [Before J. Giles, Esq., R.M.] Breach of the Borough Bye-laws. Matthew Doyle, of Stafford, was charged by John Monahan, Inspector of Nuisances for the Borough of Kumara, with carrying on business within the Borough of Kumara as a hawker, by selling bread without a license.—Defendant was fined ss, with 7s costs. Wipe Desertion. —Bernard Sheedy was charged by Margaret Sheedy, his wife, with unlawfully deserting her and his four children, viz., Thomas Sheedy, Michael Sheedy, Bernard Sheedy, and John Sheedy, a'l under the age of 14 years, and wilfully failing to provide them with adequate means of support, —Defendant pleaded not guilty.—Case dismissed j the grounds being that on one or two former occasions defendant had prepared a home for her elsewhere (which complainant admitted), and that she would not leave Kumara ; they did not agree very well, and she could not live with him. Cattle Rescue. George A, Bell charged Catherine Ryder with unlawfully rescuing four cows which he had seized for the purpose of being impounded. Defendant pleaded not guilty.—Defendant was fined 40s, with 11s costs, or the alternative of a week’s imprisonment. A few debt cases concluded the business of the Court.
