Wellington, May 11. Within the last few days the Defence Office has received no fewer than 78 offers from new volunteer corps offering t heir services.
On and after Sunday, June 7tb, and until October, the mails for England will be despatched by the New Zealand Company's steamers every fourth Sunday.
Auckland, May 11. Thomas M'Farlane died at the hospital yesterday afternoon. He was 74 years of age, and had been 29 years in the colony. Maxwell charged with the St. Louis murder, was remanded till Saturday, but further remands will be asked for till arrival of the incoming mail steamer.
