[Per Reuter’s Special Correspondent.] (Received April 8, 11.20 a.m.) Suakin, April 7, The forward movement in the direction of Handoub commenced to-day. The Scots Greys escorted a large convoy to the zareba which has been formed on the way to Handoub, and will remain to garrison the zareba with the Colonial Contingent who are already there. Sir Gerald Graham and the members of his staff will accompany the troops to Handoub to-morrow, and Genera] Graham will return to Suakin in the evening. Spies who come in from Tamai assert thtt the position has been deserted by Osman Digna, and the village burned, «■ [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE,] Aden, March 28. The transport Australasian arrived this morning. Some tempestuous weather was met with and five horses died on the passage. This steamer proceeds direct to Suakin this afternoon. Lieut.-Colonel Christie, Brigade Major, and second in command of the New South Yfales Infantry, has left the contingent for reasons which have not as yet transpired. The latest news from Suakin shows that the physique of the men forming the New South Wales contingent, is excellent and has been warmly eulogised by the British officers. It is expected that the contingent will be employed at first on convoy work, in order to accustom the men to strict discipline. London, March 26. The evening papers state that the Autumn campaign in the Soudan will probably be abandoned.
