[united PRESS association.] New Plymouth, April 7. Captain Davison, J. P. and coroner fur the district, committed snic'deathis his residence this afternoon, by blowing out his brains. The deed was done with a revolver. The bullet entered the roof of his mouth, and his brains were blown through his head. Monetary complications are assigned as the reason. Deceased was connected with public bodies. He was formerly mayor of New Plymouth, and captain of Taranaki cavalry, and at one time held the rank of Major-General in the American army. He leaves a wife and a large family. Auckland, April 7. The camp of the Maori prophetess is broken up, the Natives having returned home. She was asked about the failure of prophecies and replied that they were fools to believe her. “ The day is only postponed,” she added, “and I will still foretell that the end is near.” Christchurch, April 7. A man named John M'Carthy, foreman for Bayliss, contractor, was killed by being run over by a dray.
