[united press ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, March 15. On Friday evening a woman named Horne was knocked down by the train at Carleton, near Oxford. The engine whistled three limes but she took no notice. She was rendered insensible, and died a hour and a half afterwards. At the inquest, held yesterday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Dunedin, March 12. A heavy northerly gale blew for some hours yesterday, giving place to rain in the afternoon. Telegraphic communication was interrupted for some time on the north lines. Wellington, March 14. A man named John M'Kay has been admitted to the Masterton hospital, suffering from an injury to the spine. It appears that two men named William O’Neill and George Jones, had been fighting with M'Kay, who is not expected to recover. The strong wind last night has blown Woodyear’s circus tent into ribbons. Marton, March 14. John Thane, contractor of Turakina, was thrown from his horse in High street this afternoon, and killed instantly. Ho was unmarried and about years of age. He was somewhat the worse for drink at the time. Auckland, March 14. Pearson, of Newton, received a fractured leg, and D. L. Murdoch’s coachman fatal injuries from falling timber. There was considerable damage ashore and afloat.
