[united press association.] Blenheim, March 11. Mr Young’s body has been recovered in a 22-feet hole in Pelorus River. At the inquest a verdict of “ accidentally drowned ” was returned. Wellington, March 11. The lad named Billows, run over yesterday, died this afternooon. The Hon. J. Pharazyn has resigned his seat in the Legislative Council. It is understood that nothing will be done towards filling the vacancy until the return of the Governor, and probably it will not be filled then. March 12. Mr H. S, Wardell has been appointed R.M. for Wellington, and the Wellington District Court has been abolished. Mr Stratford, of Naseby, lias been appointed R.M. and coroner for Wairarapa. Mr G. B. Davy will act as District Judge for Wairarapa. Mr Woods, late Goldfields Warden, has been appointed R.M. at Naseby. The following appears in the Gazette :—“ Government desires to publicly notify that it has received numerous offers for active service in the Soudan at the present juncture, and to express its gratification at the patriotic spirit displayed by those volunteers and others who have so generously offered themselves. At the same time Government has to intimate that, however desirous it might be to form a body of New Zealand troops to assist her Majesty’s forces in the locality in question, it can take no step towards that object without the sanction of of Parliament. —Robert Stout, Premier. Dunedin, March 12. John Strachan, shoemaker, an old resident in the Clutha county, died suddenly to-day, whilst on his way to the railway station at Balclutha. The cause was apoplexy. Invercargill, March 12, Timothy Creed, carter, was killed in Jetty street this morning. His horse bolted, causing him to fall off, and the near wheel of his dray passing over his neck. He was 43 years of age, and leaves a wife and four children. Auckland, March 11. The New Zealand University have taken a harbor excursion to-day on the invitation of Professor Brown, of the Auckland University. A number of leading citizens were with the party. At the inquest on the body of Mary Spalding, aged 18, who died from injuries received a fortnight previously, while stepping from a train in motion at Penrose station, the verdict was accidental death. Frederick Lacoy, a passenger by the Manapouri, was arrested for stealing a ring from a hotel in Wellington. He was remanded to Wellington. Bishopdale College, Nelson, has been disaffiliated from New Zealand Univerity by the Senate for not carrying out the conditions of affiliation.
