Intelligence is to hand from Kassala, in Soudan, that the Egyptian garrison recently made a sortie from the place, when a large force of rebels was encountered, and heavy fighting ensued. The Egyptians were finally repulsed with heavy loss, and compelled to fall back on the town. Prince Hassan, the Khedive's brother, who has been appointed Governor of the Soudan and commander of the Egyptian troops therein, has started for Korti. (Received March 4, 11.30 a.m.) March 3. Intelligence is received that General Wolseley has recalled to Korti the British column under Colonel Brackenbury, which was advancing to Berber.
