WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Westland County Council met at the Council Chambers on Wednesday, at 2 p.m.; present—The Chairman (Mr J. Grimmond), Messrs Daly, M'Goldrick, Dungan, M'Whirter, Jack, Spence, and Clarke. The following report of business pertaining to this part of the county is from the West Coast Times:
Letter from the Mayor of Kumara, asking if the Council would share the expense of entertaining Ministers at the place.—Received and referred to the Finance Committee.
Letter from Mr P. Sullivan offering to sell his section at Goldsborough for the purpose of widening the street. Referred to the Chairman.
Letter from Mr W. Harcourt, calling attention to a road, distance 18 chains, made by the Council through his property near Old John's, and asking compensation therefor. Referred to the County Chairman and the Engineer to report.
Letter from Mr G. B. Way, complaining of a building about to be erected on the Dillmau's road which would narrow it.—Referred to the Chairman.
Telegram from the Minister of Mines dated Bealey, February 18, as follows : "Arranged for Professor Black to spend two months on the West Coast commencing Reefton, 2nd March! Boatman's, Nelson Creek, Kumara, Ross, Hokitika, Greymouth, &c, to follow.—Received.
Letter from Mr M'lnerney, by his agent, Mr Duncan, applying for a lease of the Taipo Ferry Reserve, which was now vested in the Council.—Mr Dungan said that M'lnerney had been there some time, and had done good service. He moved that the matter be referred to the Chairman to deal with.—Mr M'Goldrick seconded the motion. From the nature of the improvements on the reserve, some consideration ought to be shown to Mr M'lnerney.—The motion was carried.
Telegram from the Public Works Office, stating that the plans for the Taipo bridge were almost ready, but tenders could not be called just yet owiug (o the Government pneumatic apparatus being in use.—Received.
Letter from the Miues Department in reference to subsidies for tracks as follows :—" With" reference to your telegrams of the 10th and 15th instant, I am directed to inform you that the Minister of Mine 3 has authorised the undermentioned subsides upon a contribution of one :ird by the County : Track from left hand branch of Rough Wainihini to upper dam, Kuwhaka, •£300; extension of track to Gentle Annie Terrace, .£146 13s 4d; track from Okatito Forks to Teal creek, Okarito, £4OO. Plans and specifications to be approved by Mr Mueller, Chief Surveyor."—Received.
MrDungciu. moved, "Tiuu the old
track from Stafford road to the beach be pat in a proper state of repair, cost not to exceed £lo."—Carried. Mr M'Whirter, by leave, moved, " That the sum of £2O be voted towards repairing the Stafford Cemetery." Mr Dungan seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr M'Whirter moved, "That tenders be called by next meeting of the Council for raising the crate at Goldsborough in accordance with plans and specifications now in the office."—Carried. Mr M'Whirter moved, "That Mr Kerr be instructed to spend the sum of £lB in the extenson of Liverpool Bill's track."—Carried. The accounts for January as revised by the Finance Committee, were passed for payment; amount £1289 15s.
