Ross, February 16. Nearly all the employees of the Ross United Goldming Company struck today on the ten hours system and in some instances the reduction in wages. A meeting of the unemployed is to be held to-night.
Wellington, February 16. Government have received official intimation of the approaching visit-of a deputation of chiefs from the Samoan Parliament in regard to the proposed annexation of Samoa. They will be received here by his Excellency the Governor, and the Premier and Colonial Treasurer will also be in Wellin-*-on to meet them.
Reference to the death of General Gordon was made in St. Peter's Church and the Wesleyan Church last evening. Ven. Archdeacon Stock and Ven. Rev. Mr Battmber both drew graphic pictures of the honorable career of the deceasd warrior, and dealt at length on the many valuable lessons that were to be learnt from the study of so noble a life.
Dunedin, February 16. At the inquest on Ebenezer Brown, (he fireman who died after falling from Isis engine, the evidence threw no light on the cause of his falling. He was sober at the time. A verdict of accidental death was returned. He was a young married man.
