AN EYE-WITNESS ON THE DEATH OF GEN. GORDON. .

NEW GOVERNOR OF SOUDAN.

(Received February 17, 1.30 a.m.) London, February 16. General Wolseley telegraphs that an eye-witness states that the rebels entered Khartoum on the 26th of January, and that Gordon was killed by a volley from the invading troops while going to the Austrian Consulate. Cairo, February 16. In compliance with the request of General Wolseley, Prince Hassan, brother to the Khedive, has been appointed Governor of Soudan, and he proceeds forthwith to Korti, where he will assume the command of the Egyptian troops.
