VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE
The adjourned monthly meeting of the Kumara Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Wednesday evening last; present—Capt. Burger, Lieut. M'Ewen, Branchmen Brayshaw, Schulstad, and Gerraghty, Secretary Close, Firemen Anderson, Sumsion, Ziegler, Crams, Rudkin, Smith, Hannah, Coutts, Fitzsimons, Stevenson, and Barnett. Mr W. M‘Mahon was elected a member of the Brigade.
Accounts to the amount of .£1 17s were passed for payment, including 10s to F, Smith as watchman at the fire in Main street after the Brigade had left. The election of officers was then proceeded with, resulting as follows; Captain, H. Burger ; Lieutenant, J. Brayshaw ] Foreman Hook and Ladder Company, C. Sumsion; Deputy-Fore-man Hook and Ladder Company, L. Ziegler; Foreman Engine Company, G. Anderson ; Deputy-Foreman Engine Company, J. Hannah ; Foreman Fire Company, F. Smith j Deputy-Foremen Fire Company, W. Barnett and H. Fitzsimons ; Treasurer, W. Barnett; Secretary, M. Gerraghty ; Branch men, W. Schulstad, E. Stevenson, M. Gerraghty, and W. Close. A letter was handed in from Messrs Merryweatber and Sons, London, acknowledging receipt of £l2 10s for the purchase of twenty helmets. This concluded the business.
