(Received January 9, 0.30 a.m.) Cairo, January 7. Lord Wolseley has telegraphed from Korti announcing that Colonel Sir 11. Stewart, with the Cavalry convoy, starts from El Melemeneh; a village a short distance to the south of Shendy, on the left bank of the Nile, on Thursday next. It is expected that El Melemeneh will be reached and occupied on the 15th inst. • and, if a steamer is available there, regular communication with General Gordon will be opened forthwith. (Received January 9, 2.10 p.m.) January 8. Telegrams from Korti state that the Black Watch (Ist Battalion Royal Highlanders) have arrived at Korti and will proceed to Merawi to-morrow.
