The National Bank of New Zealand has declared a dividend for the past half-year at the rate of five per cent, per annum. (Received January 9, 2.10 pan.) January 8. It is currently reported here that English detectives have discovered the head quarters of the secret society of dynamiters at Pennsylvania, United States, and proves that the recent explosions in England were plotted by members of that society. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriter’s Association:— London, January 6. Arrived, the ship Rangitikei, from Auckland, August 22.
[special to press association.] London, January 3. The New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, have received advice, hy cable, that the R M.S.S. Ruapehu has arrived at Plymouth, all well, on 3rd inst., having completed the passage in thirty-six days twenty hours. The R.M.S.S. Tongariro, just arrived at Wellington, has completed the passage in forty-one days three hours’ actual steaming. These two passages are the fastest on record. [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE.] London, December 22. Michael Daviti, the leader of the National party in Ireland, has sailed from England on an extended tour through the Australian colonies.
December 28. The Governor of the colony of Natal has hoisted the British flag at St. Lncia Bay, on the coast of Zululand. It is consideied doubtful whether Earl Derby will sanction and confirm this action. The Paris journal Le Temps, writing in reference to New Hebrides, considers that it will be necessary for France to take early action in the annexation of those islands, in order to anticipate German intentions in the same direction.
