CRICKET. ENGLISHMEN V. COMBINED AUSTRALIANS. CANTERBURY V. AUCKLAND. (Received January 5, 0.40 a.m.) Melbourne, January 3. The cricket match between the English team and a combined eleven of Australia was resumed today, when the latter continued their first innings, which closed fot a total of 279. The highest scorers were— Truinble ' (Victoria), cm tight, 59;. and A. H. Jarvis (South Australia), caught, 82. Being 122 behind their opponents, the Australians followed on, and at the close of the day's play had lost two wickets for 66. Christchurch, January 4. The cricket match, Canterbury v. Auckland commenced yesterday in fine weather. Auckland went in first and were all disposed of for 92. Canterbury then went in, and when stumps were drawn for the day they had lost one wicket for 107 runs.
