NEW YEAR PICNIC
A meeting of the Children's New Year Picnic Committee was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening ; present—R. J. Seddon, Esq. (Chairman), Messrs N. Seddon, Yoysey, Burrell, Palmer, Brayshaw, Hannah, and Rndkin (Hon. Sec).
A letter was read from the Kumara Band agreeing to meet the children at the State School at 11 o'clock in the morning of New Year's Day, play round the town, and a poition of the Band to accompany the children to the paddock, for the sum of £B. —The Secretary was instructed to write to the Band accepting these terms, and to express the satisfaction of the Committee with the arrangements. The Secretary reported having received the sum of .£ll Ss 9d from Mr R. E. Wylde, being a portion of the amount collected by children having subscription lists. The Chairman reported that the Committee appointed had waited upon Messrs Keech and Mailoy, who had kindly consented to give the use of their paddock for the occasion.
Tenders for the right to erect and keap one booth for the s de of fruit and confectionery in Messrs Keech and Malloy's paddock on New Year's Day were opened. A. Trebilcock offered £2 3s, and R. Walker offered £2 Is. Mrs Tiebilcock's tender was accepted. It was resolved that cakes, buns, ifec, be procured from Messrs Keech and Mailoy, as usual. The name of Mr Voysey was added to the standing sub-committee.
There being no tenders for the refreshment booth, it was resolved that the same be offered to Mr Rugg upon the same terms as last year, and that the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary to arrange.
In reference to the entertainment in the evening, the Secretary was instructed to write to the Dramatic Club asking if they would repeat the drama they intend giving for the benefit of the Literary Institute-on New Year's night for the benefit of the Picnic Committee on the following night, and that the standing committee endeavour to arrange with the Literary Society for a division of the proceeds. It was then arranged that the standing committee endeavour to meet on Monday evening, and the general committee adjourn till Friday evening, at 8 o'clock.
