VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE

The monthly meeting of t he the Kumara Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last; present—Capt. Burger, Lieut. M‘Ewen, Brayshaw, Schulstad, Ger-

raghty, Close, Greenwood, Sumsion, Ziegler, Grams, Valentine, Smith, Woods, Keenan, Stevenson.

The minutes of the previous monthly and practice meetings were read and confirmed.

The Treasurer’s balance was announced as £9 6s 2d.

Mr W. Barnett was elected a member of the Brigade. Accounts amounting to £1 9s 6d were passed for payment. Cape. Barger reported re trousers, showing a sample pair from the New Zealand Clothing Factory, the proprietors of which offered to make them for 9s per pair.

On a motion by Branchman Brayshaw, seconded by Treasurer Geraghty “ That the question of .trowsers stand over for six months,” a division was taken, and the motion negatived ; and an amendment “ That the question of order of trowsers stand over for three months” carried.

Capt. Burger moved and Fireman Schulstad seconded —“ That an entrance fee of five shillings be charged to new members joining the Brigade.” Fireman Grams moved an amendment, which was seconded by Fireman Ziegler—“ That the working Committee meet and report at our next meeting as to the advisability of charging five shillings entrance fee for revision of roll and alteration of rules, where it is found necessary.” The amendment was carried.

Lieut. M'Ewen gave notice to move at next monthly meeting—“ That payments into members’ fund be discontinued, and the amount now in fund be divided.”

The question of sending a team to Dunedin was reopened. A motion by Fireman Grams, seconded by Branch man Brayshaw, “That the sum of £ls be taken from the members’ fund if a team to go to Dunedin is decided upon ” was withdrawn j and the same mover and seconder substituted a motion—“ That a team be sent to Dunedin.” The following members volunteered to practice for the Dunedin competition : Lieut. M'Ewen, Branch men Brayshaw, and Schulstad, Firemen Greenwood, Smith, Woods, Anderson, Ziegler, C. Murtha, J. Hannah, Close. Members’ subscriptions to the amount of 14s were handed in, and this concluded the business of the meeting.
