KUMARA HOSPITAL.

The ordinary meeting of the Hospital Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening; present—Messrs Campbell (in the chair), Nicholson, Nicholas, Watson, Burger Ziegler, Payne, Wooldridge, Metcalfe, Hanuah, aud Hope. The minutes of the previous ordinary and two special meetings were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of, and the inward read, and received and considered. It was resolved that in future the House Committee do not order goods over the amonnt of £5 without the sanction of a full committee. Accounts to the amount of £93 16s were passed for payment. It was resolved that the list of drugs required be referred to the Medical Officer, and that they be procured from the New Zealand Drug Company. The Wardsman's Report for the month of September was read and received. It showed that the total number of in-patients treated during that period was 14, of which three were discharged and one died, leaving ten in the Hospital. John M'Pherson and Frederick Draper were discharged cured, Frederick Bullen was discharged relieved; George Stewert died ; and F. Andrews, a schoolboy, Fred. Bullen, pianist, and A. Carlstrom, John Dricdn, Wm. Bain, John Isbister, John Andrews, Samuel Hugbston, Edward Bohau and W. K. Chisholm, miners, remained at the end of the month under treatment. That it would be highly injudicious to close the female ward aud make the Hospital available for males only, as we consider such a course would be unjust in an institution supported by the general public and from the public revenue. "2. We recommend that the newward lately erected be set aside for the use of females, and that it be only used in time of crowding by convalescent males when not required for their use." A discussion ensued, but the report was adopted on a division, by 8 to 2, as follows :—Ayes : Messrs Nicholas' Watson, Burger, Ziegler, Payne, Hannah, Hope, and Wooldridge. Noes : Messrs Campbell and Nicholson. It was resolved that the Secretary draft an agreement for signature with the Medical Officer, same to be laid on the table at next meeting. This concluded the business.
