[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. > — *. QUEENSLAND TREASURER’S FINANCIAL STATEMENT. (Received September 11, 12.30 p.m.) Sydney, September 11. Sailed, on Tuesday afternoon, the steamship Wakatipu, for Wellington. Brisbane, September 10. The Colonial Treasurer made his financial statement in the Legislative Assembly last evening. It showed that the revenue of the past financial year amounted to £2,370,000. The estimated revenue for the current year is £2,750,000, and the expediture £2,300,000. He announced that it is proposed to raise a new loan of a million sterling.

A Chinaman, named Ah Goon, was found dead in a shop in Little Bourke street, with wounds in his head, tending to show that ho had been murdered. It is believed that robbery was the object of the murder. No arrests have yet been made. The grand stand on the Melbourne Cricket Ground was destroyed by fire early on Sunday morning. It is believed that it was accidentally caused by a smoker leaving a lighted cigar on the place on Saturday evening. The building cost £6OOO, of which £3OOO was insured in the Indemnity Company. Fortunately the Pavilion was untouched. The Club will take steps to re-erect the stand immediately for for the forthcoming season. A fire also broke out on Saturday night at Chifney’s Racing Stables, Flemington. Four valuable horses were burned, including General Jackson aud Lucy, two well-known jumpers. The groom .got Lucy out of the building, but the mare broke loose and ran back into the burning edifice, and was killed by the flames.
The work of picking up and regaining the Tasmanian cable has been much impeded by bad weather.
A Chinaman and a woman were burned to death at Ballarat last Saturday night while in a state of intoxication. They had set fire to the hut. Sydney, September 2.
Among the passengers by the Cuzco was Mr T. Cresswell, an important witness in the case for the release of the lunatic Cresswell from the Parramatta Asylum in connection with the Tich borne mystei'y. Beach was warmly welcomed on his return home to Dapto, A procession
escorted him to his residence. One resident presented him with an acre of ground.
