THE LATE BUGGY ACCIDENT AT THE ZIGZAG. VERDICT FOR iWOODS, THE DEFENDANT.

Greymouth, September 9. The case Mulvihill versus Woods, a claim of £133 for damages clone to buggy, harness and horses, and loss of business, by the recent accident at Kumara, was finished to-day in the District Court, and resulted in a verdict for the defendant, with costs £23 18s.

Dunedin, September 8. Eight boys, whose ranged from 10 to 15 years, were brought up at the Police Court on a charge of stealing ducks. They succeeeded in purloining no fewer than 30 birds within six days. They disposed of the poultry without much difficulty to the Chinese for a very fair price, and two of them found themselves possessed of sufficient means to be able to discard their homes and put up for a few days at a cheap restaurant. It was this open display of wealth which first put the detectives on their track. One of them named Dared, aged 15, who had been convicted of horse stealing when he was 11, was sent to hard labour for a month ; and another, who had been twice previously convicted of laiceny, got 14 days. Five of them who had no previous convictions, as first offenders were discharged.

James Milner, an old identity, died on Saturday afternoon from a paralytic stroke, from which be had been ailing since Thursday last. Deceased, who was an auctioneer, was well known and highly respected. Auckland, September 8.

Patrick Moran attempted suicide today by shooting himself with a revolver in the head. The bullet entered below the right temple, and is not yet extracted. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition, and when asked his reason for the act, said he was tired of life. He has been in bad health, and latterly took to drink.
