ELECTRIC LIGHT IN ROSS MINES.

A correspondent of the Dunedin Evening Herald telegraphed from Roas on the 29th ult. ;—“ The experiment of lighting the Prince of Wales claim here by electricity is about to be tried. Yesterday Mr W. G. Johnstone, of Hokitika, accompanied by Mr Thos. Bracken and Mr Cedarholm, of Christchurch, inspected the ground of the Ross United Company, and were shown through the workings by Mr Malfroy, the manager. Mr Cedarholm, who is the representative of the Gulcher electric light, is here for the purpose of making the preliminary arrangements for lighting the Ross and Prince of Wales claims by the Gulcher piocess. The party spent a couple of hours in inspecting the drives and elevators. The latter are worked on the most approved principle, and the quantity of stuff which is put through in a day is something wonderful. When the electric light is brought into requisition the results will be much more satisfactory, as the work will be proceeded with without intermission. Mr Malfroy’s patent turbine is used, and all the skill that can be brought to bear on the hydraulic machinery is utilised. Mr Cedarholm, after careful inspection, expressed himself to the effect that there was not the slightest difficulty in the way of making the electric light answer all the purposes required by the manager.”
