It is announced that Major-General Earle will command the Anglo-Egyp-tian expedition which it is proposed to despatch by the Nile route to Khartoum in October. The British troops attached to the expedition will number 5300. (Received August 22, 8 p.m.) Capetown, August 21. Telegrams to hand from Transvaal state that the Republican Executive has issued a proclamation at Pretoria announcing the creation of a Boer Republic in Zululand, and its refusal to further recognise the independency of the native Zulu chieftains. (Received August 23, 1,15 p.m.) Rome, August 23. Che caoicra continues spreading in the north-west of Italy, several cases are now reported at Milan, Turin, and Genoa. Geneva, August 22. Cholera has made its appearance in this city.

London, August 19. A Nihilist outrage has been reported from Kasan, a town situated on the river Kasanka, 450 miles east of Moscow. One of the magazines situated a short distance from the town was exploded, killing 100 persons. Five officers in the employment of the Government of Kasan were also killed. August 20. The health of Her Majesty the Queen is such that she requires repose, and in consequence of this Her Majesty has declined to see King Tawhaio and the members of the Maori embassy.
