GOLD MINE. (Received July 19, 1.30 p.m.) Melbourne, July 19. Sir William Jervois is now busily engaged in connection with the local defen ces. The trial of Biddle, the Werribee station-master, on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the Little River railway disaster in April last, has resulted in a verdict of acquittal. Sydney, July 19. It has transpired that the Duke of Manchester, who is now here, is negotiating on behalf of a syndicate to purchase the lease of the Lucknow gold mine.
