[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. >——< CRICKET. AUSTRALIAN'S V. MIDDLESEX. VICTORIAN WATERLOO CUP. (Received July 18, 9.38 p.ra.) London, July 17. The Australian team commenced a match to-day at Lords against eleven of Middlesex. The following are the names of the Home team :—Cotterill, the Hon. A, Lyttelton, O’Brien, Pearson, Robertson, Walker, Vernon, Burton, Lucas, Paravinci, and Ridley. There was a good attendance of spectators, although the weather daring the day was showery. Tiie Home team went first to the wickets, but failed to make a stand against the howling of the Australians, Spofforth being in excellent form and doing great execution. The innings closed for a total of 53. The visitors then went in, and when time was called had scored 179, with one wicket still to go down. Murdoch made the best score of the day, 59, not out. The other principal scorers were Giffen, bowled, 32; Bonnor, caught, 43 j and Spofforth, bowled, 21. (Received July 19, 11.30 a.m.) July 18, The cricket match Australians versus Middlesex has resulted in a victory for the Australians by one innings and 29 runs. (Received July 19, 1.30 p.ra.) The cricket match Australians v. Middlesex was concluded to-day at Lord’s Ground. The weather was fine, and the attendance good. The Australians, with nine wickets down for 179, resumed their innings, which closed for 188 runs • Murdoch being not out, 64. The Home team, being 135 to the bad, went in for their second innings, but only succeeded in scoring 106 j

and the Australians thus won the match in one innings and 29 runs to spare.

For Middlesex in their second innings the highest scorers were—Lucas, run out, 26 ; and O’Brien, bowled, 26. The bowling of the visitors was dead on, and the wickets of the Englishmen fell rapidly (Received July 19, 1.7 a.m.) Melbourne, July 18. The final course for the Waterloo Cup was run to-day, and resulted in a victory for Mel ford; Monsoon took second place.
