INTELLIGENCE. [REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. >—< FRANCHISE REFORM BILL. MILITARY AFFAIRS IN EGYPT. ORIENTAL BANK CORPORATION. ANNEXING THE STATE OP CAMBODIA. (Received June 21, 1.15 p.m.) London, June 20. The Federation Reform Bill was under consideration in the House of Commons last night, and passed through Committee. The Marquis of Hartington was questioned last night regarding the military force available for service in Egypt and the possibility of successfully opposing the projected advance into Egypt Proper of the rebel Arabs. In reply the Secretary of State for War declared that the British troops now in that country would, in conjunction with the Egyptian national army, be sufficient to defend Upper Egypt against any attack from Soudan. Lord Hartington further announced that General Stephenson, who now commands the British troops in Egypt, has also the direction of any operations that may be made by the combined forces.
An official liquidator has been appointed to wind up the affairs of the Oriental Bank Corporation.
Paris, June 19. It is announced that the French Government has formally annexed the State of Cambodia, situated north-west of Cochin-China, and hitherto under the French protectorate.
