CRICKET. AUSTRALIANS V. LANCASHIRE. THE NEW ZEALAND FOOTBALLERS IN SYDNEY. (Received June 7, 3 p.m.) London, June 6. The cricket match between the Australians and the Lancashire team was resumed to-day at Manchester, in fine weather and before an enormous attendance of spectators. The local team, with five wickets down for 109 runs, continned their first innings, which, after an excellent display of batting on the part of Barlow and Mr H. B. Steel, closed for a total of 195, or 21 ahead of the Australians. The highest scorers for the county were:—Barlow, 28; Brigga, 46 ; Steel, 41, The fielding of the visitors was excellent, and alone prevented their opponents' score being much larger than it was.

After the usual interval, the Australians went in for their second innings, and a splendid display of batting ensued, with the result that when time was called for the day, 202 runs had been put together for the loss of only three wickets. The chief contributors were—Bannerraan, bowled, 44; Murdoch, 64; and Giffen, not out, 79. (Received June 9, 0.45 a.m.) June 7. The cricket match Australians v. Lancashire was continued to-day at Manchester. There was again a large attendance of spectators, although heavy rain fell at intervals during the day ; and, owing to the inclemency of the weather, play was stopped and the match drawn. The Australians, with a score of 292 runs, continued their second innings, and put together a total for eight wickets of 315 before play ceased. The highest scorer was Giffen, who was not out on the previous day, 113; Spofforth, not out, with 24. (Received June 7, 8.50 p.m.) Sydney, June 7.

The New Zealand football team played the fifth match of their tour today, when they met for the second time the representative fifteen of New South Wales on the local ground. The weather was all that could be desired, but the attendance was only moderate, not more than a thousand persons being present. The turf was hard and in good condition. The visitors had another easy victory over their opponents, who were completely overmatched, and only succeeded in obtaining one try, while the New Zealanders secured three goals and three tries. All the goals were kicked by Ryan, and the touch-downs secured by Robertson, Helmore, Tairoa, and Ryau. The passing and dribbling of the visitors was excellent, and some splendid runs were made by most of them, but particularly by Ryan and Warbrick.
