[B.EUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, ORIENTAL BANK CORPORATION LIABILITIES. (Received May 9, 2.25 p.m.) Melbourne, May 9, It has transpired that the Oriental Bank is indebted to the Victorian Government for £195,000 on loan account, £185,000 on fixed deposit, £14,000 on current account, and £30,000 in drafts. Mr Service, Premier, has written to the associated banks contending that they are all jointly liable for any deficiency in the public account that may arise by the failure of the Oriental Bank. No reply to Service’s letter has yet been returned. Sydney, May 9. The New South Wales Government has decided to take steps to recover the amounts due to the public account by the Oriental Bank.
