+ [united press association.] Christchurch, April 18. Yesterday, Alexander M‘Rae, accused of fraudulent bankruptcy, was acquitted. Charles Rouse, convicted of robbing the mail, was sentenced to three years’ penal servitude. April 20, The Hon. Mr Dick informed a deputation that there was no chance of a Charitable Aid Bill being introduced next session. Nathaniel Bryce was kicked on the head by a horse at Ashley, and died in a few hours. Auckland, April 19. The Bank of New Zealand has refused the Board of Education an overdraft of £6OOO. April 21, Yesterday the police found the body of Edwin Welcomer, a commission agent, floating in the harbor. He arrived from Taranaki a week ago, and had been drinking heavily. He was last seen on Saturday night. Deceased was said to possess considerable property in New Plymouth. William Bremner, a well-known jockey has been run over by a timber waggon at Kamo, and killed. Henry Goodwood, sentenced to five years and two floggings for rape, received his first instalment this morning. The flogging was very severe, bnt he did not utter a cry. Two warders were the flagellants and it is stated that ono of the gaol officials resigned rather than inflict the flogging. Dunedin, April 20, News has reached town of the death by drowning of Mr William Tennet, who has been a commercial traveller in the country districts of Otago for a very long time. He was thrown out of his buggy into the Manukerikia river, near Ophir, in Vincent county. He leaves a grown-np family. April 21. Further news concerning the death of Mr Tennet, shows that he was jerked out of his buggy while crossing a sludge channel on the road, and not thrown into the river. Fielding, April 19. A serious coach accident occurred on the Sandon road last night. A coach containing the Fielding Amateur Dramatic Club, of twelve persons, including two ladies and a young child, was proceeding to Saudon to give a per., formance when it was capsized. One man had his leg broken. All the others were more or less injured. Wellington, April 21. A boy, aged four years, son of Mr Speakman, a baker at Featheraton, fell down a well on Saturday and was drowned. A young bank clerk was to-day horsewhipped by Mr Musgrove, manager of the Opera Troupe, for sending an insulting letter to one of the lady members of the troupe.
