Port Chalmers, April 17

The s.s. Tongrairo arrived here this morning. The passengers enjoyed excellent health. She has 14,500 packages for this port, and 5500 for Lyttelton. The passage occupied 41 days actual steaming time. Sir Julius and Lady Vogel are among the passengers. Christchurch, April 17.

The following sentences were delivered to-day :—David Howard Moucrief Ogilvey, forgery, three years’ penal servitude ; Cornelius Fuchs Corrigan, forgery, three years’ penal servitude; Alex. M'Millan, forgery, four years’ imprisonment; Frank D. Sale, horse stealing, twelve months imprisonment. The sentence on James Rowe, who pleaded guilty to an indictment for stealing letters, was deferred till Friday next. James Ross, for stealing from a dwelling got two years imprisonment; Wm, Soppell, for forgery and uttering, received four years’ penal servitude; Cecil Garney, accused of fraudulent Conversion as a bailee, was acquitted. The trial of Alex. M‘Rae, for fraudulent bankruptcy, was nob concluded when the Court rose. Auckland, April 17. Margaret Nixon, a barmaid, attempted suicide by drowning at the whai-f last night, but was fortunately rescued by two sailors.
