At a meeting of miners held last evening at Dillman’s Town, Mr F. Barrowman in the chair, at which twenty-two parties working into the sludge-channel were represented, the following resolution, proposed by Mr W. Morris, and seconded by Mr R. Rothwell, was carried :—“That a representative from each claim attend at the Warden’s Court, and ask for an adjournment, to allow time to lodge objections to the proposed new regulations ; but to be prepared to go on with their objections should the Warden not be able to grant an adjournment.”—ln the report of the proceedings at the Warden’s Court to-day, it will be seen the request for an adjournment was granted. In the Supreme Court, Christchurch, on Thursday, 10th inst., in dealing with the application for a change of venue of the trial of Hughes and Maloney for arson from Hokitika to Nelson, his Honor Mr Justice Johnston remarked that “he thought Mr Martin who appeared for the Crown Prosecutor at Westland, ought to file other affidavits as to the suitability of Nelson and the readiness of the Crown to pay expenses of ivitnesses. In order to allow of this being done the case would stand over. He felt very strongly he might say, on the affidavit of Mr Turner, which amounted simply to this, that neither Protestants nor Catholics at Hokitika would give a proper verdict.” The meeting of the Hospital Committee takes place this evening in the Town Hall at eight o’clock.
Commander Edwin wired “urgent” yesterday, as follows Bad weather is expected between north-east to north and west; glass further fall, and within 12 hours much rain and heavy sea.” Later—“lndications for floods after 10‘hours after five p.m.”
The Westport Times of the 15th inst. says: —“ When leaving port on Saturday night, the s.s. Orawaiti took the ground on the North Spit, and was subsequently driven higher up the Beach.
