Wellington, April 15. The Hon. Mr Rolleston will address his constituents at Christchurch on Saturday next. The case of Kate Boyle, who was convicted of infanticide recently, has been considered by Government, and a recommendation has been made to his Excellency for her release.
Dr. Grabham, Inspector of Lunatic Asylums, who is now on an official visit, has been instructed to report as to the sanity of the prisoner Donohue, condemned for murder at Greymoutb. It is understood the examination has been made and that Dr. Grabbam's report will probably reach here this week.
Oamaku, April 15. The band contest in which the Duuedin Garrison, Oamaru Garrisou, Dunedin Navals, North Dunedin Kifles, and Qaeenstown Bands contested, was won by the Oamaru Band, Dunedin Navals being second, and the Dunedin Garrison third. Invercakgill, April 15. A girl aged four years, daughter of Powell, the auctioneer, accidently fell into a bath on Saturday evening and was severely scalded. The sufferer died last evening. Auckland, April 14. The laying of the foundation stone of the new Baptist Tabernacle took place to-day in the presence of a large assemblage. The Baptist clergy of the province, ministers of various denominations and Professor Aldis, of Auckland University, gave addresses. The stone was laid by Dr. Kendyne, the collection amounting to £4OO. The soiree in the evening was largely attended; the Rev. Thos, Spurgeon presided.
