[united press association.] Lytt elton April 5. The Ruapehu sailed with 70 passengers, but no frozen meat owing to the breaking down of the refrigerator. Captain Pitfield, of the barque Glenlora, was taken ill on the morning and found dead in his bed four days before reaching Lytteltou. The body was brought on to port, An inquest will be held. Wellington, April 5. Parliament meets for the despatch of business on the sth June. The Post in referring to the murder of Warder Adams at Nelson gaol, says the gaol officials throughout the colony set on foot subscription lists for the benefit of his family, and it has resulted in the substantial sum of .£292 16s lOd being collected. To-day Mr Micaiah Reid, treasurer, forwarded a draft for £290 to Mr C. Fell, Mayor of Nelson, who acts as trustee for the fatherless family. It is proposed to devote the interest of this sum towards the maintenance and education of the children, the principal to be divided among them on the youngest coming of age. Dunedin, April 5. A meeting of eleven medical men condemned the sentence on Dr. Parry as unjustified by the evidence, as the rupture might have taken place in the hands of the most skilful practitioner. Dr. Hocken dissented. The meeting resolved to petition Government to commute the sentence. Auckland, April 5. An English syndicate has purchased 40,000 acres at Taupo for £32,000. The negotiations were conducted by cable messages, which alone cost £750. Poet Chalmers, April 3. Arrived, the Himalaya, barque, Culbert, from Glasgow, 105 days. She brings 1400 tons of cargo—looo for Dunedin, and 400 for Auckland, with 26 passengers. One John Mulholland, died this morning from consumption. He was in a delicate state of health leaving home.
