The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 1884.

The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council will be held this evening, the hour for business being 7.30 o'clock. The usual Warden's and R.M. Court sittings will take place to-morrow morning, commencing at 10 o'clock. The land sale will be held in the Court House, at 2 p.m.

The Secretary Kumara Hospital desires to acknowledge the receipt of £8 10s, from Mr H. Hope, being the amount of subscriptions received towards the Hospital funds.

The town allotments of land which under the provisions of the 7th section of the "Kumara Education Reserve Act 1879," have been released and withdrawn from reservation, will be offered for sale by public auction, at the Court House, Kumara, to-morrow, Friday, at two o'clock in the afternoon. The valuation for improvements in favor of the parties entitled thereto, together with the upset price of the sections, may be seen at the Court House.

The Times reports a good deal of sickness in Hokitika just now, and several cases of undoubted diphtheria. Dr. Giles (tho Argus states) has been deputed by Government to inquire into certain complaints made against Captain Allardyce while harbormaster. The inquiry will be commenced at once.

The council of the Linnean Society of New South Wales offers a prize of £IOO for the best original essay "On the Life History of the Bacillus of Typhoid Fever." The author must confine himself to facts which lie has himself observed under methods which are to be clearly explained. The essay must be sent to the Society's ofiko, Sydney, on or before December 31st, 1884.
