Arrived, this afternoon, the P. and 0. steamship Valetta, with the Brindisi mails, dated London, February 22. Preparations are being made for according a welcome, on Wednesday next, to the Rev. Dr. Barry, before his departure for Sydney. In a Gazette issued this evening, Sunday next, the 6th inst., is proclaimed a day of general mourning throughout the Colony for the death of Prince Leopold. intermittent. Accounts from the country districts generally state that great distress prevails owing to the want of "water, and there is no present sign cf rain. News is to hand from New Guinea that the inland tribes there are engaged in a fierce war, and that the Rev. Chalmers has proceeded to the scene of hostilities to endeavour to restore peace.
