[united press association.] Nelson, March 11. A meeting of hopgrowers was held to consider the action of the leading merchants in endeavouring to place this season's hops at a most unreasonable price. It was said they had offered them at eightpence, while growers said they could not be grown under a shilling. It is said that the crop will not be half the average this year, and A. Harley said that the total in Nelson would not be 2000 bales this year. A resolution was agreed not to sell any hops for six months at less than a shilling. A committee was appointed to to draw up a legal agreement to this effect. Auckland, March 11. Morris Greenfall reports having arranged with Dion Boucicault for an early tour in Australia and New Zealand. Masterton, March 12. A girl named Eliza Herrick, aged 15, committed suicide at Taueru by taking arsenic on Monday. She concealed the cause of her illness till the following day, when the doctor was sent for, and she died immediately after his arrival. The supposed cause is a trumpery disagreement with her brother.
