RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICER.
A meeting of delegates of the Hospital Commiitee and various Friendly Societies of Kumara, to consider the applications received for the appointment of a duly qualified and certificated medical practitioner for the same, was held in the Town Hall last evening. There were present Messrs W. Nicholson (in the chair), Davidson, Campbell, Wiesner, Ktoener, James Morgan, M'Ewen, Ziegler, Burger, J. Hannah, J. Light, Hannan, Palmer, Watson, Hope, and Harris. Applications for the appointment were received from the following professional gentlemen :—A. G. Nicholl, Waimate; Stanley Tressider, Creswick; J. S. Wilson, Melbourne; Geo. Eveleigh, Waikouaiti ; and F. A. Monckton, Kumara. After some consideration, it was resolved to reduce the number of applications to two, and the names of Drs. Monckton (Kumara) and J. S. Wilson (Melbourne) were submitted to the process of ballot, the result being that Francis Alexander Monckton was appointed Surgeon to the Kumara Hospital and Friendly Societies ; the voting being Monckton 11, Wilson 5,
