TAIPO BRIDGE CONTRACT WAGES PAYMENTS.

[to the editor.] Sir—As Mr Foldi last week in the KumarA Times advertised that all arrears for wages in the Taipo Bridge Timber Contract would be settled on Saturday, I called upon him for the amount due to me, when, to my surprise, he told me he had no order to pay me f-om Mr Martin, Engineer, and until he got such order he would not recognise my account Having gob judgment for my amount on the 14th of December last, before Dr. Giles, in the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Kumara • now, sir, if Mr Foldi is going to do as he likes with decisions of the Court, I think lie ought to hold a better position than storekeeper. Supposing I had to travel fifty miles to get my amount, and then be told it cannot be paid without an mu... ..^uj Mr Martin

I think if I was to offer Mr Foldi a few pounds, lie would come to terms with rue; but I shall not do so. Another wages man, by name of Witt or White, applied for his wages of £7 odd, when Mr Foldi politely informed him there was £2 odd for him, if he liked to take that; but of course the man refused it. If Mr Foldi wants to deduct so much from each man’s wages let him advertise that he wants to pay so much in the pound, and have no more humbug about it. I hope Mr Martin or some other arm of the Government will order Mr Foldi to pay up without further delay, as I have lost nearly three months’ time over it. It would not be a bad plan for the men that will finish the contract to be paid in advance, and so save a lot of trouble. I hope this will be sufficicent for Mr Foldi to pay me, and have no more humbug.—l am, Henry Fow, Kumara, March 3, 1884.
