The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, bringing East Coast, Australian, and Suez and San Francisco mails. The old Westland judicial district, which comprised Hokitika, Greymouth, Westport, and Reefton, will henceforth (the Argus reports) consist of two judicial districts—Westland South and Westland North. It appears that about a month ago Mr Wm. Perkins, solicitor, resigned the office of Crown Prosecutor for the Westland judicial district, which has been followed by the subdivision of the district and the appointment of two Crown Prosecutors, where there was only one before. Mr W. M. Purkiss, solicitor, of Hokitika, has been appointed Crown Prosecutor for Westland South, the northern boundary of the district most probably being Grey River. Mr W. R. Haselden, solicitor of Westport, has been appointed Crown Prosecutor for Westland North. Captain Edwin yesterday wired to expect bad weather from any direction between north-east and north and west • glass falling within ten hours, and after twelve hours heavy sea. The second lecture of the course on " Spirits and the Spirit World " will be delivered by the Rev. Mr Hay, in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, to-morrow evening, at seven o'clock. The particular subject will be—" Ministering Angels." A fatal accident is reported by the West Coast Times to have taken place yesterday at Humpy's Gully, Stafford, by which a Chinaman, named All Wong, met with his death. It appears deceased was working with his three mates, ground sluicing, Avhen one of the party, Ah See, noticed that the ground was falling in. He called out, but the noise of the water prevented him from hearing, and the earth and boulders struck him on the head. Assistance was at once rendered, but finding that he was dead, the body was conveyed to the Oddfellows' Hall, at Stafford, where an inquest was to be held to-day at two o'clock. A meeting of the Kumara and Dillman's Town Brass Band Committee will take place at the Town Hall on Monday next, 18th inst., at 8 p.m. Messrs Girdwood, Lahman and Co. will hold their fortnightly sale at Arahura on Monday next, when some grand ripe quiet bullocks will be submitted to auction. A half share is for sale in Palmer and party's claim, Dunedin Flat. Particulars can be obtained from Mr Rudkin.
