Since penning the foregoing we learn that a deputation on behalf of the Miners Committee, consisting of Mr R. J. Seddon, M.H.R., and Mr D. Hannan, agent for the Miners Association at tbe Lite inquiry, interviewed Dr. Giles at the Court House on the Bth inst., and pointed out to him that the return supplied to himself and Mr Gordon relative to the receipts and expenditure in connection with the sl.idgi'.chsinnel IV!I far short cf what was required, imisuuieh as no credit

was therein given for the value of the free use of channel in opening up their claims; also that it was absolutely necessary that a return be supplied of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Kumara water-race, for the past year, for the purpose of shewing the profits derived from the wacer-race and channel combined.—Dr. Giles said that he had already given instructions to be furnished with a return in connection with the sales of water, and would request that a return be prepared (if any such account was kept) shewing the value of the free use of channel.— The deputation thanked Dr. Giles for his courtesy, and then withdrew.
