A meeting of residents of Riverina (a district lying between the Murray and Murrimbidgee Rivers, forming parts of New South Wales) will be held here to-morrow for the purpose of considering the question of separation from New South Wales, which has been advocated at meetings held at other places. (Received February 1, 1 a.m.) At the Geelong Racing Club Meeting to-day, the race for the Gold Cup was won by Linda. Scott, a Victorian, and Garrett, a New South Welshman, have joined the Australian cricket team. Twelve or thirteen players will proceed to En«liind. Arrived, the Orient steamship Garonne, with mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London December 21st, consisting of 195 bags, the New Zealand portion of the mails being forwarded via Sydney and Auckland. (Received February 1, 1 a.m.) Sydney, January 31. Sailed, this afternoon, the Pacific Mail steamship Australia, for San Francisco, via Auckland. Further arrests have been made by the police in connection with the murder of Elizabeth Phillips, at Wooloomooloo, on September 10th, last year. Albany, January 31. Arrived, last night, in King George’s Sound, the P. and 0. steamship Rosetta, with the English mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, December 28. [Per s.s. Manipouri, at the Bluff.] Melbourne, January 21. Governor Normanby goes to Sydney on Thursday in order to visit the steamship Australia, by which his Excellency and suite proceed to San Francisco on April 24th. The Hon. Ivo Bligh is a passenger in the Rosetta, which is expected at Albany in about ten days. Sydney, January 21. The Australian Eleven are playing matches in the country towns of New South Wales, but a great deal of the interest is eliminated from the contests owing to Murdoch and Bannerman not playing. Four men, O’Malley, M'Manus M'Cosker, and Galvin, who were charged with sticking up Scott’s Hotel, on the Black Mountain, were brought to trial. O’Mally received ten years’ hard labour and the others were discharged. Adelaide, January 21. Lord Rosebery arrived here on Friday and inspected the city. A banquet in the Town Hall at night was brilliantly attended.
