RESIDENT MEDICAL PRACTITIONER.
After the meeting of the Hospital Committee was over, several members of it who were deputed met to consider the question of appointing a suitable Resident Medical Officer for the Kumara Hospital and Friendly Societies, a position rendered vacant again by the inability of Dr. Lowe, of Clinton, who had been elected, to accept the appointment. Mr Palmer (representing the Oddfellows), Mr G. Anderson (the Foresters), and Mr Wiesner (the German Society) were also present. The following letter from Dr. Porter was received and considered : To the Kumaba Hospital Committee. Gentlemen—l regret to say that I have to leave Kuniara, as arrangements come to some time since compel my presence in Blenheim this month. If agreeable to you I should propose getting a doctor to do my work until you can permanently suit yourselves. I am, Your obedient servant, T. L. Porter. January 8, 1884. It was lvsolved that a letter be forwarded to Dr. Porter informing him that this meeting is agreeable to accept his offer to provide a qualified substitute until April. It was resolved that applications for the position of Medical Officer be called for March sth; the gentleman appointed to take office on ""Ist April. The meeting was then adjourned to the sth Match.
