His Honor ordered the prisoner to be kept in strict custody until the Colonial Secretary's pleasure should be known. Alexander Anderson, on a charge of attempting to murder his paramour, Mary White, was found guilty, and sentenced to three years' hard labor. Auckland, January 8. At the Police Court this morning, Edwards the " ped " was charged with committing wilful and corrupt perjury by swearing in the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, that his signature to a cheque was a forgery. It was stated that a warrant, had been issued at Wellington for his arrest. The Court, however, decided that in the absence of a warrant they could not take action on the telegram, and so dismissed the case. Edwards sailed by the mail steamer for San Francisco in the afternoon.
