THE WESTLAND EDUCATION SUB-DIVISION ACT.

brought into operation. The Hall was crowded, the meeting was unanimous, and the following resolutions were carried without dissent:— (1.) Proposed by Mr Michel and seconded by Mr Dale—" That this meeting extremely regrets that the Minister of Education has nut appointed a person to complete the elections for the new Boards, or has not taken such other steps as may be necessary to give effect to the Sub-division Bill." (2.) Proposed by Mr Eisfelder and seconded by Mr liyanvs—"That this meeting regrets to learn that the Minister is still negotiating with the remaining portion of the Board of the defunct Educational District, and resolves that whether the Sub-division Act be brought into force or not, the people of tills district will positively decline to carry on educational matters, in any shape or form, through the late Westland Board." (3.) —Proposed by Mr Park and seconded by Mr M'Millan—" That this meeting considers it absolutely necessary that some person fully conversant with the last three years' deplorable mismanagement of educatiou affairs in Westland, should proceed to Wellington forthwith, with a view of moving Government to take immediate steps to bring the Sub-division Act into operation ; and (in case insurmountable difficulties should present themselves), to arrange that educational matters in the Westland County he managed direct through the Department in Wellington." (4.) Proposed by Mr Tait and seconded by Mr W. Smith—" That Mr Rae be requested to proceed to Wellington to carry out the foregoing resolution." (5.) Proposed by the Rev. Mr Lawry and seconded by Mr Rue—" That Mr Fitz Gerald be communicated with and asked to interview the Minister of Education with Mr E=ie on the subject of the Sub-division Act with a view to bringing it into effect." (6.) Proposed by Mr Dale and seconded by Mr Gibson—" That the Mayor telegraph the foregoing resolutions to the Minister." Mr Rae, the gentleman unanimously selected by the meeting to represent their views to the Ministry, signified his willingness to leave by Friday's coach en route for Wellington. Mr Rae will also represent several local School Committees, for the same purpose, as will be seen by reference to a foregoing report. Mr G. G. Fitz Gerald, M.H.R., has intimated his willingness to proceed again to Wellington, and to meet Mr Rae there, to interview the minister of Education relative to the Sub-division Bill.
