The balance of the unallotted shares of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway were placed in the market to-day, and were fully covered. It is announced that Sir E. Malet, late Diplomatic Consul-General in Egypt, has been appointed to succeed Sir J. Savile Lumley as British Minister at Brussels. The Homeward mails via Suez and B.iindisi, which left Melbourne on April 24, were delivered here to-day.

In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Cole's motion of censure on the land administration of the Government was negatived without a division. Melbourne, June 8. Mr Redmond delivered a lecture last night in explanation of the objects of the Land League. There was only a small attendance.
