KUMARA HOSPITAL

At the meeting of the Hospital Committee in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, there were present—Messrs Toms (in the chair), Montague, Harris, Stockman, Campbell, Spyer, Burger, Morris, and Payne. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Wardsman's Report for May was road. It stated that during the month the total number of patients treated was four ; one, Solomon Pascoe, had been discharged cured of pleurisy in the right side. The three who remained were—"W. Menzies, W. Murphy, and G. A. Wood, the latter suffering from synovitis in the left knee. The Report was received. The graveling of the Hospital yard and repairing kitchen chimney were matters it was agreed should be left to the House Committee. In the case of Abe Cook, who requested admittance to the Hospital, it was decided to refer the matter to the Doctor and House Committee. A letter from the Doctor relative to the patient Menzies was held over for consideration till next meeting. It was proposed by Mr Morris and seconded by Mr Spyer, " That the Committee regret the funds of the insti tution will not admit at present of an increase of salary being given to Wardsman Ross." —Carried. A letter was read from Mr W. Nicholson, resigning his position as Secretary to the Committee, Mr Morris moved—" That the resignation of Mr Nicholsou be accepted, and that a vote of thanks be recorded in the minutes for his services for the

past six years."—The motion was seconded by Mr Spyer, and carried. It was then resolved that applications be called for from persons willing to fill the office of Secretary, and that the salary be £25 per annum ; . the duties to commence on July 10th. Messrs Morris, Burger, and the Secretary were appointed to canvass the town for subscriptions to the Hos* pital. Receipts were handed in—by Mr Burger, £1 ; Mr Morris, £1 10s; MiHarris, £1 • Mr Payne, 10s. Accounts to the amount of £52 13s were passed for payment, and the meeting was then adjourned.
